president obama wants a lot of it. he says we need new rules and regulations put in place during his first term to hold wall street and the big banks accountable and protect consumer and the u.s. economy. >> after all we have been through, i don't believe that rolling back regulations on wall street will help the small businesswoman expand or the laid off construction worker keep his home. >> reporter: republicans in congress want to cut obama era and even bush era regulations which they dismiss as unnecessary red tape. two laws are at issue here. dodd-frank and sarbanes-oxley. dodd-frank is the signature financial reform of president obama's first term. it set up the consumer financial protection bureau to write new rules to prevent fraud and unfair lending practices and put limits on banks deemed too big to fail by monitoring threats and stopping another financial crisis. sarbanes-oxley was a response to a different crisis, the enron accounting scandal of the early 2000s. it set up stricter accounting rules for compa

pretty tough words from the secretary of defense, but how he might or the obama administration might carry that out in a place like algeria where that government and their military forces are making it clear they don't want outside help, might be pretty hard for the u.s. to live up to that promise at least for the moment. ashleigh? >> well, you know, barbara, we're four month from september 11th, we're in next door libya we still don't have an arrest of said terrorists who dared to do what they did to us, kill our ambassador and take out others who were serving in the mission there, so i love that tough talk. but, please, really, can we? >> yeah. no, i think you have actually just hit on it. everyone is now very anxious to say that north africa, mali, algeria, tunisia, libya, egypt, all of this is the new front for al qaeda, safe havens, the war on terror. a lot of words being thrown around, ashleigh, but action on the ground, being able to put military force into there and hunt down these north african al qaeda leaders and the cells of al qaeda, that's another thing. a lot of these

. >>> monday, not just the day of president obama's second inauguration. it is also martin luther king jr. day. i spoke with the reverend king's youngest child bernice king at the martin luther king center here in atlanta about her new children's book and how she thinks we should remember her father and his message. >> dr. king's work and his mission and his messages are important to the future of our nation. and although we have come a long way, we still have to finish the work of dr. king. this is the 50th anniversary year i have a dream speech. and so we thought it aprapo to put his words in print. so there are wonderful oil paintings throughout. very few people are able to capture him and i think he's done just a wonderful job here. >> what do you think is the most important thing you can do to serve your community on this day? >> what i think is most important is that you serve. you know, we know that the famous quote now, everybody can be great because anybody can serve. all you need is a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love. and so this

barack obama was not responsible for the benghazi attack any more than george w. bush was responsible for the 9/11 attacks or ronald reagan was responsible for the attacks on our marine barracks in beirut which killed over 200 marines. and frankly whether it was called a terrorist attack or not, in the immediate aftermath as far as i'm concerned is irrelevant. we just have to make sure that it never happens again, so that in the future our people are protected. that's what i want to get out of all of this. so, madam secretary, we commend you for accepting all of the arb recommendations and welcome your commitment to begin implementing them by the time you leave the department. even before the arb submitted its conclusions, the department moved to address certain shortcomings through its increased security proposal, vast majority of the funding for this proposal would come from funds previously appropriated for lower priority programs. and i hope congress will move without delay to give the department the transfer authority it needs to start applying these changes.

i stood next to president obama as the marines carried the caskets off the plane at andrews. i put my arms around the mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters and the wives left alone to raise their children. it has been one of the great honors of my life to lead the men and women of the state department. nearly 70,000 serving here in washington, more than 270 posts around the world. they get up and go to work every day often in difficult and dangerous circumstances because they believe, as we believe, the united states is the most extraordinary force for peace and progress the world has ever known. and when we suffer tragedies overseas as we have, the number of americans applying to the foreign service actually increases. that tells us everything we need to know about the kind of patriots i'm talking about. they ask what they can do for their country and america is stronger for it. so today, after four years in this job, traveling nearly a million miles, visiting 112 countries, my faith is stronger than ever. every time that blue and white airplane carry
